As a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, I have the unique opportunity to share my leadership experiences with first year medical students in the MD program. As part of a new initiative at the University of Toronto, all medical students receive training on how to be leaders and managers of the healthcare system.
In addition to the lecture, I worked with the good folks at Discovery Commons to develop an interactive website that student can visit to watch in-depth interviews with the major players in Canadian healthcare. Dr. Bob Bell, President and CEO of University Health Network (UHN), and Dr. Patrice Bret, Chief of the Department of Medical Imaging at UHN, discuss the leadership skills they employed as senior hospital managers. While Dr. Charlotte Moore and Dean Catharine Whiteside share their respective experiences in the government healthcare sector and academia. Dr. Michael Baker and Dr. Blake Woodside side light on the unique challenges of leading in large healthcare enterprises.
