About

My fascination with leadership began on vacation after my first year of medical school. For the trip I decided to bring along a few audio books on the topic of leadership. At the time I was the Vice President of Education at the University of Toronto and I thought reading about leadership would make me more effective in my work. Up to that point, I had been engaged in leadership roles but never really thought critically about leadership. However, in quiet reflection I began to appreciate how leadership can be learned and understood how my style of leadership had been cultivated. In particular one definition of leadership resonated with me: To help people and organizations surpass themselves. It’s a definition that doesn’t depend on one’s title or position, but one’s ability to empower others. It’s a concept that has stuck with me ever since.

With this website I hope to promote “Social Leadership.” To me the notion invokes both social responsibility and connectivity of social media. It’s meant to serve as a platform for my development as a leader and hopefully your development as well. Through the power of social media we will grow together to help empower the people we live and work with.
